3CX Zendesk integration

What is the 3CX Zendesk integration?

The 3CX Zendesk integration is a native helpdesk connector that links your 3CX phone system to your Zendesk Support account. When a call comes in, 3CX matches the caller’s number against your Zendesk users, pops the matching user and ticket on the agent’s screen, and logs the call back to Zendesk as a ticket comment or a new ticket — with no manual note-taking.

It is a helpdesk and ticketing integration, not a sales CRM. Its purpose is to keep your support conversations complete: every inbound and outbound call, answered or missed, is recorded against the right Zendesk ticket so your agents and reporting reflect what actually happened on the phone. Agents can also click a number in Zendesk to place a call through 3CX (Click2Call).

The integration is available on the 3CX PRO and Enterprise editions and is configured server-side in the 3CX Admin Console, so it applies across your queues and agents without installing anything on each PC. Agents interact with it through the 3CX web client or the 3CX browser extension for Chrome and Edge. For Saudi organizations, ECOLOR configures the number matching for +966 / E.164 formats and tunes when a call should create a ticket versus append a comment.

  • Native connector — built into 3CX, no third-party middleware
  • Helpdesk-focused: calls attach to Zendesk tickets, not sales opportunities
  • Works for inbound and outbound, answered and missed calls
  • Configured once, server-side, for all agents

What the integration does

Caller ID from Zendesk

3CX matches the incoming number against your Zendesk users and shows the requester’s name instead of a raw number.

Ticket screen-pop

The matching Zendesk user and ticket open automatically on ring or answer in the 3CX web client or browser extension.

Click2Call

Agents click a phone number inside Zendesk and 3CX places the call — no manual dialing or copy-paste.

Call logged to tickets

Every call is journaled to Zendesk as a ticket comment or new ticket, including answered, missed, inbound and outbound calls.

Auto-create user/ticket

Optionally, an unknown caller can be created as a new Zendesk user and/or ticket so no contact is lost.

Central setup

Configured once in the 3CX Admin Console using the Zendesk template, API token and subdomain — no per-agent install.

How ECOLOR sets it up

  1. Assess

We review your 3CX edition, Zendesk plan, queues and how you want calls to appear as tickets before touching anything.

  2. Connect API/subdomain

In the 3CX Admin Console we add the Zendesk template with your subdomain and API token so 3CX can read users and write tickets securely.

  3. Number matching (+966/E.164)

We configure exact, partial and E.164 matching so Saudi numbers like +9665XXXXXXXX and local 05X formats resolve to the correct Zendesk requester.

  4. Ticket logging rules

We define when a call opens a new ticket versus adding a comment, and map call outcome to ticket status so records stay clean.

  5. Test & handover

We test inbound, outbound, missed and unknown-caller scenarios end to end, then hand over with documentation and agent guidance.

What you need before you start

  • 3CX PRO or Enterprise edition
  • Zendesk admin access and an API token
  • Your Zendesk subdomain (yourcompany.zendesk.com)
  • Caller numbers stored in a consistent format for matching
  • Agreement on when calls should create tickets vs. add comments

Don’t have all of these yet? ECOLOR can review your setup and confirm what’s needed before any changes are made.

Saudi deployment notes & limits

The most common issue in Saudi deployments is number formatting. Zendesk users may hold numbers as +9665XXXXXXXX, 009665XXXXXXXX or local 05XXXXXXXX, while 3CX presents the caller in E.164. ECOLOR configures normalization and exact/partial matching so all of these resolve to the same Zendesk requester, and we display Arabic requester names correctly.

The second decision is ticket vs. comment logic. Not every call should open a fresh ticket — for an ongoing support conversation you usually want the call logged as a comment on the existing ticket, while a genuinely new caller may justify a new user and ticket. ECOLOR maps this to your support process and to call outcome (for example, answered vs. missed) so your Zendesk data stays meaningful.

It is important to understand the limits of native journaling. The 3CX Zendesk integration logs and screen-pops calls one at a time as they happen; it is not an outbound campaign or bulk-dialing engine. For structured outbound programs — proactive follow-up campaigns, list-based dialing and agent productivity workflows — ECOLOR’s AutoConnect is the appropriate tool. AutoConnect is ECOLOR-developed and is not a native 3CX feature; it complements, rather than replaces, the native Zendesk logging described here.

Frequently asked questions

Which 3CX edition is required?
The Zendesk integration requires the 3CX PRO or Enterprise edition. It is not available on the free or Standard tiers. V20 Update 9 is the current stable release.
Does it create Zendesk tickets automatically?
Yes. Calls are journaled to Zendesk automatically as comments on a matched ticket or as new tickets, and you can optionally auto-create a Zendesk user and ticket for an unknown caller. ECOLOR configures the rules for when each happens.
Is Zendesk a CRM or helpdesk integration?
Zendesk is a helpdesk/ticketing integration in 3CX. Calls attach to Zendesk support tickets rather than sales opportunities, which is the right fit for customer support and service desks.
Does it support Saudi +966 matching?
Yes. ECOLOR configures exact, partial and E.164 number matching so Saudi formats such as +9665XXXXXXXX and local 05X numbers resolve to the correct Zendesk requester.
Is it server-side or per-agent?
Configuration is server-side in the 3CX Admin Console, so it applies to all agents without a per-PC install. Agents use the screen-pop through the 3CX web client or the Chrome/Edge browser extension.
Can it do outbound campaigns?
The native integration logs calls and enables Click2Call, but it is not a campaign dialer. For bulk outbound and list-based campaigns you need ECOLOR AutoConnect, which is ECOLOR-developed and separate from the native 3CX Zendesk integration.
How is setup handled?
ECOLOR handles it end to end: assessing your setup, connecting the Zendesk API and subdomain, configuring Saudi number matching and ticket-logging rules, then testing and handing over. Contact [email protected] to start.
