What is 3CX disaster recovery?
3CX disaster recovery is the use of the built-in Backup & Restore feature to take scheduled backups of your entire 3CX configuration and restore them onto a new 3CX instance — running the same version — if the server is lost. It is distinct from 3CX high availability / failover, which is a live standby server that takes over automatically within seconds.
A 3CX backup captures the full system configuration: extensions, DIDs (direct dial numbers), IVR menus and call flows, voicemail, and — optionally — call recordings. Backups can be stored locally on the server or sent offsite to FTP, SFTP, or Google Drive. An offsite copy is what keeps you protected if the origin server is completely lost, because a local-only backup disappears with the machine it lived on.
When a disaster occurs — a failed server, an accidental deletion, or a bad upgrade — you install a fresh 3CX instance on the matching version, restore the backup, and the phone system returns with its full configuration. The critical point is that backups alone are not disaster recovery: you also need a written, tested restore runbook that proves the restore will actually succeed when you need it, rather than discovering a gap mid-incident.

Saudi deployment notes & limits
The restored server must match the same 3CX version the backup was taken from; cross-version restores are not supported, so we record the version in the restore runbook and preserve compatibility.
Call recordings inflate backup size significantly, so we decide what to include based on retention policy and the space available at the offsite destination — recordings may be stored separately from the configuration backup.
