3CX V20 Update 9 (Final): What’s New — and a First Look at Update 10 (Alpha)
3CX V20 Update 9 (Final) is the current stable production release of 3CX, published on 16 June 2026. It delivers a fully redesigned Web Client, xAI Grok transcription and smarter AI assistants, a set of advanced call-queue features, and a new Custom Remote Syslog export for SIEM and compliance. A separate Update 10 (Alpha) preview — AI Customer Service Agent, a standalone AI Server, an MCP Server, Programmable Extensions and AI Call Scripts — was announced on 30 July 2026 for testing and evaluation only, not for production. As a MENA 3CX Solution Provider, ECOLOR Technologies helps Saudi and GCC organizations upgrade to Update 9 today and evaluate Update 10 in a safe pilot environment.
What’s generally available now in V20 Update 9 (Final)
Everything in this section is GA (production-ready) in the current stable line, Update 9 (Final), released 16 June 2026. These are safe to deploy on live systems, subject to your edition and configuration.
Redesigned Web Client
Update 9 introduces a fully rebuilt Web Client with cleaner navigation, an enhanced Team View, an updated dialer, and a refreshed progressive web app (PWA). It is the day-to-day workspace your agents and staff use for calls, chat and presence. See how the phone system fits your organization on our 3CX phone system in Saudi Arabia page.
xAI Grok transcription and AI assistants
Update 9 adds xAI Grok as a transcription and summarization provider alongside OpenAI Whisper, and Grok summaries now return in the transcription language rather than English only. Full call transcription, summaries, sentiment and call analytics are part of the 3CX AI Edition; PRO includes voicemail transcription only. The conversational AI Agents (AI Receptionist, AI Personal Assistant) remain GA from earlier updates and require the customer’s own OpenAI API key — a bring-your-own-key model, so the LLM usage is billed by OpenAI, not included for free. Learn more on our AI transcription and call analytics and 3CX AI Agents pages.
Advanced call-queue features (PRO and above)
Update 9 significantly upgrades queue handling. The following are GA in PRO and Enterprise editions:
- Queue callback on request — callers keep their place, hang up, and receive a callback instead of waiting on hold.
- Estimated wait time announcements — calculated from real agent statistics (talk time, wrap-up, availability), capped at 30 minutes.
- Comfort prompts — up to fifteen configurable messages at set intervals, with optional randomized playback and position-in-queue announcements.
- Destination no-answer announcements — a message plays when a destination fails to answer, aligned with break, closed and holiday logic.
These features power a more professional queue experience for any contact center. Explore the full picture on our contact center solutions page.
Skill-based routing and tiered escalation (Enterprise)
For Enterprise deployments, Update 9 adds skill-based routing and skill-tiered, cumulative escalation — progressively widening a call across skill groups and triggering on timeout, not only when agents are unavailable. This is an Enterprise-edition capability and is production-ready in Update 9 (Final).
Custom Remote Syslog (SIEM export)
Update 9 (Final) formally released Custom Remote Syslog Logging, which forwards 3CX operational, security and audit events in real time to any Syslog server or SIEM (rsyslog, syslog-ng, Kiwi, and major SIEM platforms). It supports UDP, TCP, TLS and mTLS transports and the RFC 3164 and RFC 5424 formats. This capability supports your governance and observability efforts — it does not, by itself, make you compliant with any standard; compliance depends on your overall program.
Coming next: Update 10 (Alpha — testing/evaluation only, not production)
V20 Update 10 was announced by 3CX on 30 July 2026 as an Alpha release. 3CX states it is intended for testing and evaluation only and should not be installed on production systems. There is currently no Beta, Release Candidate or GA for Update 10 — the current stable line remains Update 9 (Final). We track this roadmap closely and can set up an evaluation or pilot environment today, with production rollout once a feature reaches a stable release. The following are all Alpha:
- AI Customer Service Agent (Alpha) — automates first-line support from your Knowledge Sources and escalates to a human when needed. Preview our commercial detail on the AI Agents hub.
- Standalone 3CX AI Server (Alpha) — a dedicated server that runs AI transcription, summaries and sentiment locally or in a private cloud, keeping sensitive voice data on your own hardware. See the 3CX AI Server page.
- 3CX MCP Server (Alpha) — a native Model Context Protocol endpoint (OAuth, role-limited) that lets clients such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and GitHub Copilot interact with 3CX. See the 3CX MCP Server page.
- Programmable Extensions (Alpha) — register an external application as a 3CX extension with bidirectional PCM audio, opening a path to custom AI voice agents. See Programmable Extensions.
- AI Call Scripts (Alpha) — scripted, AI-assisted call flows for agents, introduced in the Update 10 preview.
None of the above should be treated as production-ready today. ECOLOR can help you evaluate them in a controlled pilot and plan your production adoption once 3CX ships a stable release.
Should you upgrade to Update 9 now?
For most organizations the answer is yes: Update 9 (Final) is the current stable, supported production line, and it brings the redesigned Web Client, better transcription and materially stronger queue handling. As a MENA 3CX Solution Provider, ECOLOR reviews your edition, hosting model and configuration first — outcomes and available features vary by edition and setup — then plans an upgrade designed to minimize disruption. If you also want to trial Update 10 capabilities, we keep that in a separate evaluation environment away from your live system.
FAQ
What is the latest stable version of 3CX?
The latest stable, production-ready version is 3CX V20 Update 9 (Final), released on 16 June 2026. Update 10 exists only as an Alpha (announced 30 July 2026) for testing and evaluation, so it is not a production release.
Is the 3CX AI Server available in production?
No. The standalone 3CX AI Server is part of Update 10 and is currently in Alpha — for testing and evaluation only, not production. ECOLOR can set up an evaluation environment now and plan a production rollout once it reaches a stable release.
Do the new queue features cost extra, and which edition do I need?
The Update 9 queue features — callback, estimated wait time, comfort prompts and no-answer announcements — are available in PRO and above. Skill-based routing and tiered escalation are Enterprise features. They are included in those editions rather than sold as separate add-ons; verify edition gating on your own console.
Does the Grok transcription add-on require an OpenAI or xAI key?
Transcription and summaries run on the 3CX cloud (OpenAI Whisper or xAI Grok) as part of the AI Edition, or locally on the future AI Server. The conversational AI Agents (Receptionist, Personal Assistant) are separate and require your own OpenAI API key, billed by OpenAI.
Can ECOLOR help us upgrade and evaluate both updates?
Yes. ECOLOR Technologies, a MENA 3CX Solution Provider based in Riyadh, can plan and perform your upgrade to Update 9 (Final) on production, and separately stand up an Update 10 Alpha pilot for evaluation — subject to a technical assessment of your current environment.
